Stretch, Core and Recovery class

We have just run our first term of our Stretch, Core and Recovery class for endurance/multisport athletes and will be running an 8 week term starting Wednesday July 23 until Wednesday September 17.

What the punters said:

"Really enjoyed the stretching"

"Is easy to start bad habits doing the core strengthening exercises so good to be shown correct technique"

"Have noticed a big difference when swimming"

"Found using the rollers and tennis balls helped a lot"

"Class has helped me most with swimming"

"Has armed me with simple, effective, quick stretches we do at home after training"

NEXT TERM
Dates: 8 Wednesday nights commencing Wednesday July 23 and finishing Wednesday September 17
Time: 8.30-9.30pm Unfortunately we were unable to find an earlier timeslot.
Venue: Engadine Health (previously known as the squash centre) 62A Anzac Avenue Engadine. Link to Map (NOTE NOT ENGADINE POOL COMPLEX)

Format:
1 hour class lead by qualified Sports Physiotherapist, Matt McEwan. Limit of 15 participants to allow supervision of technique.

  • Stretching : Safe effective stretching specific to triathlon, multisport and swimming. Probably won’t get you doing splits or balancing on your head but will improve functional range of movement for swimming, riding and running

  • Core strengthening: Safe effective progression of exercises for trunk muscles including shoulder blade stabilisers, abdominals, glutes and back muscles. Essential for long flat bike rides (Busselton anyone?)

  • Recovery: We will use some simple gadgets for some easy self massage techniques. Trigger points, active fascial release, rollers etc. Learn how to breathe more effectively and practice muscle relaxation techniques.

Cost: $160 for 8 week term. Payable on booking. May be claimable on Private Health Insurance under Group Physiotherapy items. Please check with your Insurer.

What to bring:

  • Wear suitable gear for the exercises above, including running shoes

  • 2 towels (make one a thick beach towel)

  • 2 tennis balls ($2 shop ones are perfect)

  • Foam roller if you have one. A $2 shop pool noodle works perfectly well

  • Swiss/Gym/Medi-Ball if you have one (not until week 2 or 3). If you need to buy one we will have special deals on professional quality balls for you to purchase
