Real Time Ultrasound Minimize

Parkside Sports Physiotherapy has recently added Real Time Ultrasound (RTUS) to our practice.

RTUS uses a diagnostic ultrasound to see the layers of abdominal muscles move when performing core activation exercises.  Being able to see the muscles moving helps to improve isolation of the deepest layer of your core muscles, the transverse abdominals (TA).  The ability to accurately engage the TA muscle has been shown to reduce low back pain and ultrasound is the most accurate way for Physiotherapists to teach this muscle activation.

For TA assessment and training, the ultrasound head is applied to your lower abdomen just above the hip bone, there is no need to remove any clothing

RTUS can also be used to assess and train pelvic floor muscle activation using the US head just below your navel. Once again being able to visualise the movement produced by a pelvic floor contraction can provide a great benefit to this vital muscle's rehabilitation after childbirth or surgery.

RTUS sessions are provided as a stand-alone session, taking 30 minutes and billed as a standard physiotherapy consultation.  Normal health fund rebates apply. We have male and female therapists performing RTUS every day.
